Culture of Ignorance -NiggaTime Edition
What's good everybody and welcome to this edition of the MGP Files: A collection of stories and ideals presented in the perception of yours truly.
Now this video here is a personal recording of the 2012 school press conference/meeting for the student body at UAPB by then chancellor, Lawrence A. Davis, Jr. Dr. Davis has deep roots in Pine Bluff due to his father, Lawrence A. Davis, Sr.; being a former chancellor himself during the Civil Rights Era (For More Historical Info, Click HERE). As a Golden Lion myself earning both my Bachelor's and Master's in Agricultural Regualtions, I am very aware of the the significance of such a legacy that name hold for the school, the commmunity, and for all HBCU's. His father did much in the name of African-American progress; but somewhere down the line, certain aspects of that honorable name must have gotten lost somewhere. But before I move into that topic, let me take time to expand on the phrase, NiggaTime.
Now the word/phrase or what may have you have 2 concepts intertwined that are: "NIGGA" & "TIME". In general, the word, "NIGGA" is a multi-faceted word that can either be deragratory and endearing at the same time due to it's spelling and WHO'S using it. But more specifically, it is a Behavior Identifer grouping the stereotypical attitudes and actions of what is accepted as normal for a so-called Africa-American person by other demographics; and by other so-called African-American people(Urban Definition & Academic Definition). The concept of, "Time" is considered FLUID with no beginning or end by certain Quantum Physic cirles of thought. But let's just stay with the simplified take on it by displaying the percieved measurement between two designated points.
Using the word, "Nigger" to attach to "Time" amplifies the meaning in a negative and deragratory setting; which is by most folks look at so-called black people like anyway. In the case of the Chancellor and the Student Body of the time, each were at fault for both ridiculing each other in their own special way. Unknown to them, I saw this situation as a, "NiggaTime" moment. The chancellor during the announcement allowed his ego to get himself to address a situation that did NOT need addressing in such a fashion since it was proven that no foul play was found during the audit. No need for a public display of showing good faith to the student body that did not recieve it as such. I always wondered why so-called, "black people" are quick to ridicule each other?? I really don't know. Who can really say, you know??
Anyway, fast forward into now at 2016 where UAPB has a new CHANCELLOR with a NEW VISION for the university. The campus has improved visually, the food at the cafeteria (which is a full-fledged resturant by the way) as well. I can't speak upon the faculty since I don't frequent the campus much, but the student body seems lively with fresh energy to give to the environment so let's see how things will go for UAPB this time around.........
